2025 Insights: 56% of US Employees Embrace AI at Work Despite Limited Company Policies

Discover how over half of US workers actively use generative AI in their daily tasks while only a quarter of companies have official AI guidelines. Explore the impact on productivity and workplace dynamics in 2025.

According to a recent 2024 survey by the Conference Board, 56% of American employees utilize generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to enhance their work processes, even though most organizations have yet to establish formal AI policies.

Highlights

  • More than half of US workers (56%) incorporate GenAI tools into their job functions.
  • Only 26% of companies have implemented AI policies to regulate the use of this technology.
  • A mere 4% of employees view AI replacing parts of their work negatively.

Widespread GenAI Usage Among US Employees, Including Daily Engagement

The survey reveals that 9% of workers engage with GenAI daily, signaling a growing dependence on AI-driven solutions in professional environments.

Quality and Scope of GenAI-Assisted Tasks

Employees report that GenAI-generated work meets high-quality standards, with approximately 75% rating it comparable to outputs from experienced or expert colleagues. However, GenAI usage primarily supports foundational tasks such as drafting content (68%), brainstorming ideas (60%), and conducting background research (50%).

Limited Adoption of AI Policies by Companies

Despite the widespread use of GenAI, only 26% of organizations have formalized AI policies, highlighting a significant gap that may pose challenges in governance and ethical AI application.

Positive Perception of AI as a Productivity Tool

With 63% of workers acknowledging that GenAI positively influences their productivity, most employees view AI as a valuable aid rather than a threat. Diana Scott, head of the Conference Board Human Capital Center, emphasizes that workers see AI as a means to automate repetitive tasks, enabling focus on higher-value activities.

While some employees anticipate AI replacing certain job elements, only 4% consider this a negative outcome. Conversely, 33% welcome AI integration into parts of their roles, and 24% believe AI cannot substitute any aspect of their job.
