Tuchel: Greenwood is not in England's plans

England manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he has not contacted former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood and that the 23-year-old is not part of his plans.

Greenwood left United after legal charges, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February 2023. He then joined Getafe on loan before completing a permanent move to Marseille in 2024. To date, he has scored 23 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for the French side.

Despite earning a single England cap in a 2020 Nations League match against Iceland, Greenwood began pursuing a switch to play for Jamaica. He obtained a Jamaican passport but has yet to submit the formal change of association paperwork, delaying any commitment to the Caribbean nation.

Tuchel dismissed the idea of recalling Greenwood, saying, "I have not spoken to him or his representatives. My understanding was that he is pursuing Jamaica, so he was never in our considerations."

Jamaica coach Steve McClaren had hoped to include Greenwood for World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago, but the forward reportedly is unwilling to commit at this time. McClaren added that Greenwood "loves and respects Jamaica" but wants to focus on his club career for now.

Despite an impressive club record, Greenwood remains outside England's plans as he weighs up his international future.
