Third-Party Navigation Apps Coming to Android Auto
Google Play for Android Auto will soon feature third-party navigation and EV charging station finder apps, enhancing user experience on the platform.
Among the new additions is the popular navigation app “2GIS.”
In August, Google announced that developers would be allowed to publish apps in new categories for Android Auto. As a result, Google Play will soon host third-party applications dedicated to navigation, parking assistance, and locating electric vehicle charging stations.
While Google Maps remains a reliable choice for many users, some have expressed dissatisfaction with the limited alternatives, as Waze—the only other option—has relatively low popularity in certain regions like Russia. Previously, accessing other familiar navigation apps required users to enroll in beta testing programs.
Now, developers can release stable versions of their apps on Google Play, provided they meet all platform requirements.
Apps already submitted for review and expected to be available soon include 2GIS, Sygic, PlugShare, AmiGO, and Flitsmeister.
