Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: A 3-Panel Foldable Phone with Dual Hinges

Samsung unveils Galaxy Z TriFold, a bold three-panel foldable with dual hinges, a titanium frame, and a 10-inch inner display designed for enhanced multitasking and on-the-go productivity.

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, its most ambitious foldable yet. The phone uses two hinges of different sizes to form three working panels, expanding both display area and productivity.

Design and displays

Triple-panel design uses two distinct hinges and a dual-rail mechanism housed in a lightweight titanium chassis. The inner screen measures about 10 inches with a resolution of 2160 by 1584 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, enabling smooth multitasking and even a DeX experience without a monitor. The exterior screen is roughly 6.5 inches, with a 1080p resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio, ideal for media and web browsing.

Panel thickness and folding

Each of the three panels has its own thickness: the center panel is 4.2 mm thick and includes a USB-C port, the thinnest panel is 3.9 mm with a SIM tray, and the third measures about 4.0 mm. The panels fold inward in a way that differs from some competitors, offering a distinct folding geometry.

The back cover is made from a polymer reinforced with ceramic and fiberglass elements to minimize cracks and improve durability.

Cameras, battery, and performance

The device packs a high-end rear camera system: a 200‑megapixel wide-angle sensor, a 12‑megapixel ultrawide, and a 10‑megapixel telephoto with up to 3x optical zoom. Front cameras sit on both the cover and the inner displays at 10 megapixels each, ensuring clear selfies from either screen. Power comes from a total 5,600 mAh battery distributed across the panels, paired with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset and 16 GB of RAM for robust multitasking and smooth app handling.

Stylus support and durability

The Galaxy Z TriFold does not support Samsung's S Pen stylus. A company spokesperson confirmed there is no stylus compatibility, unlike some previous Fold models. The phone carries an IP rating of IP48, offering strong water protection but limited dust resistance.

Availability and pricing

Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea on December 12. Official pricing has not been disclosed yet, but officials indicate the three-panel design will carry a premium compared with standard foldables.

Expert comment: An industry analyst notes that the three-panel approach could redefine productivity in foldable smartphones, though questions about price and long-term durability remain.

Short summary: Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold pushes the boundaries of foldable design with a triple-panel setup and dual hinges. It offers a large interior display, a premium camera system, and a rugged build, but does not support the S Pen. Availability starts in South Korea on December 12, with pricing to be announced and the model expected to sit above current Fold devices.

Key insight: The three-panel Galaxy Z TriFold aims to blend productivity with portability, signaling Samsung’s push to redefine the foldable market.
