Samsung Galaxy S21 and Other Flagships to Receive 4 Android Updates and 5 Years of Support

Back in summer 2020, Samsung announced a shift to a three-year support cycle for its mobile devices. By February 2021, the company committed to delivering security patches for four years. Now, according to a recent leak, Samsung plans to extend support for its new flagship models to five years.

Renowned insider Evan Blass (@evleaks) shared details from a leaked press release about the Galaxy Tab S8 series. According to his information, select current and upcoming Samsung devices will receive four major Android OS updates and five years of security patches.

The eligible devices include:

• Galaxy S22 Ultra, S22+, S22, Galaxy S21 Ultra, S21+, S21, and S21 FE
• Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Z Flip3 5G
• Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, Tab S8+, and Tab S8 tablets

If confirmed, this means the Galaxy S21 lineup will receive updates up to Android 15. Devices that launch with Android 12 out of the box are expected to get Android 16 and continue receiving updates until early 2027. Samsung is likely to officially announce this extended support during the Unpacked event on February 9, where the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 tablets will be unveiled.
