The strikes overnight affected the Poltava, Sumy and Chernihiv regions, according to the president’s Telegram update. Ukraine’s energy ministry condemned the attacks as part of a broader strategy to cripple civilian infrastructure ahead of winter, noting that last year half of the country’s power-generating capacity was destroyed by Russia.
Reciprocal strikes on Russian assets
In response, Ukraine has intensified its own assaults on Russian energy sites, hitting refineries and an oil depot. Zelensky reported nearly 100 drone incursions over 24 hours, with additional targets including a school in Kharkiv and a residential building in Kherson.
Calls for increased international pressure
"New steps are needed to pressure Russia to halt these attacks and guarantee real security. We are coordinating with our partners to achieve this," Zelensky added.
More than three years into the full-scale invasion, ground fighting continues unabated. Ukrainian officials confirmed that Russian forces briefly crossed into Dnipropetrovsk region on Tuesday but were repelled. While Moscow has not claimed Dnipropetrovsk, it continues to push in Donetsk, where Russia’s defence ministry says its troops recently captured a village.
The latest drone assaults underscore Russia’s persistent strategy to undermine Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and the urgent need for stronger external support.
