Australia captain Pat Cummins says he could be back for the second Ashes Test after missing Perth with a back injury.
Pat Cummins could be fit to return for Australia in the second Ashes Test at the Gabba.
The Australia captain missed the Perth Test with a back injury as England were bowled out for 172 and 164, paving the way for a dominant win.
Mitchell Starc claimed 10 wickets in the match as Australia sealed victory by eight wickets inside two days.
Cummins, who relinquished the captaincy to Steve Smith and was replaced as a pace bowler by Scott Boland for the Perth game, said he hopes to reclaim both roles for the day-night Test at the Gabba, which begins on 4 December.
It is feeling good, Cummins told Fox Sports. He has had a couple of solid sessions in Perth this week, planning to bowl around 10 overs, then a rest day, and back into it. The pace bowler says it is on track and pulling up well and that he is half a chance for the next game.
He added that there could be about two weeks before the next one, depending on how this game unfolds. He is pretty hopeful and thinks it is probably better than it was a few weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja's participation remains doubtful for the second Test after he hurt his back and did not open in either Perth innings.
Uzzy is not moving too well. His back flared up again in the slips while he was jumping for a catch, so he was unable to open, Cummins said.
- Australia’s preparations for the Brisbane day-night Test continue as Cummins nears a comeback.
Key takeaway: Cummins is hopeful of returning for the second Ashes Test, aiming to resume captaincy and pace duties at the Gabba. BBC
