Effortlessly Resume Your Videos Exactly Where You Left Off with VLC Player
Learn simple techniques to continue watching your videos from the exact point you paused using VLC Player's built-in features and handy bookmarks.
There are two effective ways to resume video playback right where you stopped: enabling a specific setting and using bookmarks.
Watching an entire movie in one sitting can be challenging—whether due to limited patience or unexpected tasks. Fortunately, the popular VLC media player offers features that let you quickly pick up from where you left off.
How to Continue Watching Videos from Your Last Stopped Point
- Press Ctrl + P to open the VLC settings.
- Navigate to the Interface tab and locate the option labeled Continue Playback?
- Select Always and click Save at the bottom of the window.

With this setting enabled, VLC will automatically start your videos from the point where you last closed the player. This feature supports the last 100 videos you watched.
If you want to save multiple specific moments within a video, bookmarks are the solution.
How to Use Bookmarks in VLC
- Press Ctrl + B to open the Edit Bookmarks window.
- Click Create to save your current position in the video.
- Double-click any saved bookmark to jump directly to that moment.

One limitation of bookmarks is that they are cleared when you close VLC. However, the Moments’ Tracker extension solves this issue by preserving bookmarks between sessions. To use it, place the extension file in the folder specified in the add-on’s description, open your video, then select Bookmark your moments from the View menu.
