Dyson Unveils AI Robot Vacuum: Spot+Scrub AI Finds Dirt, Optimizes Cleaning

New Dyson Spot+Scrub AI uses dual LiDAR and AI to locate dirt, map rooms, and tailor cleaning with a self-cleaning dock and wet mop.

Dyson has introduced the Spot+Scrub AI, an advanced robot vacuum built for European homes. It uses artificial intelligence to locate dirt and choose the best cleaning approach, going beyond standard navigation.

The vacuum delivers strong suction, up to 18,000 Pa, and combines a central roller brush with a side mini-brush to pick up debris on various floor types. For mopping, it uses a 27‑centimeter roller mop with a water-dispensing system and a self-cleaning function.

A green LED light helps the robot better spot dirt, while built‑in AI analyzes dirt levels and the mess to decide whether a spot needs re-cleaning. In practice, it evaluates the "before" and "after" shots to determine the most effective modes and settings without user input.

Navigation relies on a dual LiDAR system that helps the vacuum map surroundings and identify around 200 object types, including cables and small items like socks. The unit can operate up to 200 minutes on a single charge and automatically returns to its dock when the battery runs low.

In addition, the charging dock features auto‑cleaning and can support as long as 100 days of cleaning without direct user intervention. The mop component is cleaned with hot water (60 °C) and dried with warm air (about 45 °C) to maintain hygiene.

Control is handled through the MyDyson app, where users can set room maps and cleaning schedules. In Italy, the Spot+Scrub AI is priced at €1,199, roughly £1,045. The device will roll out to other European markets in December.

Expert comment

Industry observers say AI‑driven cleaning robots like Spot+Scrub AI could push the category toward greater autonomy, provided practical reliability in real homes. The combination of advanced sensing, AI decision making, and a self‑cleaning dock may improve user experience and long‑term hygiene.

Summary

Dyson’s Spot+Scrub AI introduces AI-powered dirt detection and adaptive cleaning in a robot vacuum, backed by a smart, self-cleaning dock. Its long battery life and robust sensors promise more efficient, hands-off cleaning for busy households. Availability in Italy at €1,199, with a broader European release in December expands access to this premium option.

Key insight: AI‑driven dirt detection combined with a self‑cleaning dock signals a new level of autonomous, hygienic cleaning for home robot vacuums.
