Speaking at the D11 conference hosted by AllThingsD, Ricci revealed, “We are the primary providers of voice recognition technology for Apple.” He clarified that while Nuance supplies the voice recognition capabilities, the artificial intelligence features of Siri are developed independently by Apple. Furthermore, Nuance’s technology extends beyond Apple; Samsung also utilizes their solutions for its Android-based assistant, S-Voice. However, Nuance does not collaborate with Google’s voice assistant services.
Looking ahead, Ricci shared his insights on the evolution of voice recognition technology. He anticipates that within the next two years, virtual assistants will become more powerful and platform-independent. “The real challenge is to develop a virtual assistant that truly understands user intentions and proactively takes actions to meet those needs,” he explained.
It’s worth recalling that Apple introduced Siri alongside the launch of the iPhone 4S, prompting many competitors to accelerate their development of similar voice assistant capabilities.
