This vulnerability has been exploited by attackers behind the BitPaymer ransomware, which has targeted at least 15 organizations in the United States.

While Apple has addressed this security gap in iTunes, users should be aware that simply updating the software might not remove the vulnerable Bonjour updater. Even if iTunes has been uninstalled, an outdated version of Bonjour could remain on your system. To ensure full protection, manually uninstall Bonjour via the 'Add or Remove Programs' feature in Windows.

Additionally, note that the latest macOS update has discontinued iTunes as a standalone app, redistributing its functions across multiple new applications.
