Cristian Romero commits to Tottenham with new four-year contract
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has signed a new four-year deal keeping him at the club until 2029, securing leadership in defence.
Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has signed a new four-year contract, committing his future to the club until 2029.
The 27-year-old Argentine centre-back joined Spurs from Atalanta in August 2021, initially on loan before his transfer was made permanent the following summer. He has since made 126 appearances and scored eight goals.
Last season, Romero captained the team to victory in the Europa League final, ending Tottenham’s 17-year wait for a major trophy by beating Manchester United.
After being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, Romero was named club captain by new head coach Thomas Frank. With two years remaining on his previous contract, the new deal extends his stay in north London through 2029.
Right-back Djed Spence also signed a long-term contract. The 25-year-old joined from Middlesbrough in 2022, spent time on loan at Rennes, Leeds and Genoa, and emerged as a key player under Ange Postecoglou last season, making 42 appearances and scoring twice. His contract now runs until 2028.
Romero’s new deal reinforces Tottenham’s ambition and locks in defensive leadership for the coming years.
