Can Premier League Players and Staff Play Fantasy Premier League?

The Premier League allows club members, including players and staff, to participate in Fantasy Premier League, though individual clubs may set specific guidelines. Past incidents highlight ethical concerns over team news leaks.

Members of Premier League clubs, including players and support staff, are permitted to play Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Played by over 10 million users worldwide, FPL lets participants assemble squads of 15 players and earn points based on real-life performances in Premier League matches.

While the Premier League does not ban its own players or staff from joining, individual clubs may set their own guidelines.

Arsenal, Bournemouth, West Ham and Fulham reportedly allow their squads and staff to participate, though Fulham staff are advised against selecting their own club players. All other clubs have been approached for comment.

Several Newcastle players, including Aaron Ramsdale, Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Fabian Schär and Kieran Trippier, have competed in FPL in past seasons, as has Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley.

Ethical Concerns over Team News Leaks

In the 2020–21 season, an Aston Villa fan allegedly used staff members’ FPL accounts to deduce Jack Grealish’s injury before a match against Leicester City. Villa lost 2–1, prompting an internal investigation into the leak.

Pep Guardiola, then Manchester City manager, condemned the incident as "unprofessional and unethical," highlighting the risks of sensitive information sharing via FPL.

A clear Premier League policy allows club members to play FPL, but past incidents show how insider information can lead to ethical breaches.
