Beware of Holiday Scams Targeting Bank Customers with Fake High-Yield Offers

Stay informed about the latest holiday-themed banking scams that trick customers into revealing their personal information through phishing sites disguised as official bank portals.

Be cautious if you're offered a deposit account with unusually high returns during the holiday season.

Customers of several major banks have recently reported a new fraud scheme that repurposes familiar scams under the guise of festive promotions. According to reports, fraudsters impersonate bank representatives and contact victims with offers of exclusive foreign currency deposits boasting elevated interest rates.

These scammers call from numbers that appear to belong to the bank, claiming that the special deposit isn’t yet listed on the official website but can be opened immediately by following a provided link. The link is shared only after the victim consents to it during the call.

However, the link directs to a phishing website designed to mimic the bank's login page. When victims enter their usernames and passwords, these credentials are instantly captured by the criminals. With access to the victim’s account, scammers can swiftly transfer funds to their own accounts.

This scam emerges during the holiday season when banks typically launch promotional campaigns offering festive deposits with enhanced returns, making customers more susceptible to such fraudulent offers.

Previously, fraudsters often pressured victims by posing as security personnel warning of suspicious transactions, urging them to disclose sensitive card details including the CVV code to 'prevent' unauthorized withdrawals. Remember, legitimate bank employees never request confidential information over the phone.
