Sorana Cirstea Appeals for Return of Stolen Cleveland Trophy

Romanian tennis star Sorana Cirstea asks for the return of her WTA trophy allegedly stolen from her New York hotel room.

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea has appealed for the return of a WTA trophy she says was stolen from her New York hotel room.

Cirstea, ranked 57th in the world, won her third WTA singles title—and her first since 2021—at the Tennis in the Land tournament in Cleveland on 23 August.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta please give it back. It has no material value, just sentimental value! It would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.”

The glass trophy was presented a day before the US Open, where Cirstea lost in the second round of singles to 11th seed Karolina Muchova, and exited in the first round of doubles alongside Anna Kalinskaya.

Earlier this year, Cirstea and Kalinskaya won the Madrid Open on clay, making their US Open results a disappointment. INLIBER Sport has contacted the Fifty Sonesta Hotel for comment.

Sorana Cirstea has urged whoever took her Cleveland trophy to return it, stressing its sentimental value.
