Derbyshire to Receive £24m Windfall from The Hundred Franchise Sales

Derbyshire County Cricket Club will secure over £24m from The Hundred franchise sales, funds that chief executive Ryan Duckett calls transformational for the club and English cricket.

Derbyshire County Cricket Club is poised to receive more than £24m following the sale of The Hundred franchises, a development its chief executive Ryan Duckett describes as a "game changer" for both the club and English cricket.

The English and Wales Cricket Board sold eight franchises for a combined £520m earlier this year. Each professional county has already received £400,000, with Derbyshire set to get £17m next year and an additional £7m over the following five years.

"This funding will secure a sustainable future," Duckett told INLIBER Radio Derby. "It's transformative not just for a county like Derbyshire but for all professional and recreational cricket."

In its 2024 accounts, Derbyshire generated £5.8m, including £3.2m from the ECB's central fund. The new windfall will fund major facility upgrades at the County Ground, from improved lighting and drainage to enhanced hospitality and changing facilities.

"Investing in infrastructure will support long-term revenue growth and, ultimately, stronger men's and women's squads," Duckett said.

Looking Ahead

Derbyshire remains in contention for promotion in the County Championship as the final month of the four-day competition approaches. Domestic cricket faces an uncertain future, with proposed red-ball reforms delayed until at least 2027 and a reduced T20 Blast schedule now accepted by the club.

Duckett noted the popularity of the One-Day Cup and said there is growing support for more one-day fixtures in August, especially from non-Hundred host counties seeking to meet fans' demand for high-quality cricket.

Derbyshire's significant windfall from The Hundred franchise sales will underpin facility improvements and future squad investment, securing the club's long-term growth.
