Johnny Kenny replaces Troy Parrott in Republic of Ireland World Cup squad

Celtic striker Johnny Kenny earns first senior call-up, stepping in for the injured Troy Parrott as Ireland prepare for World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Armenia.

Celtic striker Johnny Kenny has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Armenia, replacing the injured Troy Parrott.

AZ Alkmaar forward Parrott, who impressed with 10 goals in seven appearances this season, suffered an injury in training and will miss both fixtures. Kenny, 22, receives his first senior call-up after notable performances at under-21 level.

Kenny was omitted from Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Rangers last weekend but secured a new contract at Parkhead last month following successful loan spells at Shamrock Rovers.

All other players from manager Heimir Hallgrimsson’s initial squad have reported for duty ahead of the home match against Hungary at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, 6 September, and the away game in Armenia on Tuesday, 9 September.
