Initial information about the project surfaced back in June 2021, revealing the title, some plot details, and the director — Kenji Kamiyama, renowned for his work on the series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
The storyline unfolds approximately two centuries before Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The War of the Rohirrim will highlight the heroic feats of Helm Hammerhand, King of Rohan, and the construction of Helm’s Deep, the fortress famously featured in Peter Jackson’s The Two Towers.
The project involves notable contributors such as Philippa Boyens, the screenwriter behind all parts of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, John Howe, Tolkien’s book illustrator, and Richard Taylor, costume and makeup designer for The Lord of the Rings films.
