Xiaomi Surges to Second Place in Russia's Smartphone Market, Overtaking Honor

Discover how Xiaomi has climbed to the second spot in Russia's smartphone sales, surpassing Honor amidst shifting market dynamics and global sanctions.

Recent studies reveal a global decline in Huawei device market share, a trend also evident in Russia.

In September, Xiaomi claimed the second position for the highest smartphone sales in Russia, pushing Honor down to third place. Samsung continues to lead the market, maintaining its top spot. These insights come from multiple sources reported by Vedomosti.

The primary factor behind Honor's decline is the U.S. sanctions imposed on its parent company, Huawei. These restrictions have deprived Honor devices of Google services, significantly reducing consumer interest in new models.

Counterpoint Research data supports this trend, showing a drop in Huawei's global smartphone sales after sanctions were enforced. By August, Huawei's market share had decreased from 21% in April to 16%, while Xiaomi's share increased from 8% to 11% during the same period.

Retailers and mobile operators interviewed by Vedomosti confirm Xiaomi's strengthening position in Russia. M.Video-Eldorado reported approximately a 90% growth in Xiaomi sales volume over nine months. According to MTS data, in the third quarter, Xiaomi held 14.9% of the market, Samsung 28.2%, and Honor 13.8%.

Recently, rumors surfaced online suggesting Huawei might consider selling its Honor smartphone division, with Xiaomi mentioned as a potential buyer.
